A long tube, approximately 170 cm in length, in which sound waves travel back and forth. The experimenter speaks into one end of the tube, and the sound takes about 1 second to travel the length of the tube and return. Using this, the speed of sound, approximately 340 meters per second, can be measured and experienced.
